In case you haven’t been paying attention — and given the real life horror movie that we’re living in these days, who could blame you? — there’s been a recent spate of anti-choice legislation in various states around the country.

Ohio and Georgia will soon ban abortions after six weeks (before many women even know they’re pregnant), without exceptions for issues like rape, incest, or maternal age. Alabama takes it a terrifying step further and bans all abortions, and criminalizes those who perform or receive an abortion.

Holy freaking shit. We are literally wearing red capes and white hats right now. This is the real life Handmaid’s Tale.

These laws were passed with the intention of challenging Roe v. Wade, and seriously, how are we still talking about this? Don’t lawmakers have better things to do with their time than create a dystopian society? Apparently not, because a whole lot of GOP legislators — who not so coincidentally happen to be white males — have been hellbent on enacting the most archaic, offensive, restrictive anti-choice laws in modern history. Because obviously, to these folks, women just do.not.matter.

Want more proof that the GOPers just don’t care? If a rape victim gets an abortion she could face more prison time than her rapist. Let that sink in for a minute.

For the love of God, can we please stop having men — who very obviously have no understanding of the female body — stop deciding what happens with our bodies?

I mean, the ineptitude is absolutely astonishing.

Here’s the harsh truth: laws don’t stop abortions, they only stop safe abortions and put actual lives at risk. Not exactly pro-life, is it?

And the hypocrisy is pull-your-hair-out maddening. I can’t believe we are talking about issues of abortion and birth control when children are literally dying in the streets (and in our schools) and the income disparity in our own country is staggering.

While we’re wasting time and energy on this nonsense, laws that would actually save lives don’t seem to matter.

Also? These laws are racist.

And this isn’t a battle women should have to fight on our own. Because, hello, women don’t get pregnant on their own. Guys, it’s time to speak up. NOW.

Or here’s an alternative…

I truly can’t believe we’re still talking about this, but pro-choice legislation matters — to all of us. Not only does “abortion” cover a wide range of medical procedures — including D&Cs for missed miscarriages, voluntarily medical abortions, and dilation and extraction procedures — but the lives that are put at risk impact us all.

Bottom line: If you don’t believe in abortion, don’t have one. But if you are truly pro-life, then upholding a woman’s right to choose and other pro-choice legislation is the only way to actually support life.
