Yes, it’s a cliche to say pregnant moms want pickles and ice cream.
And yet there’s something about that combo of salty and sweet that’s just magic. If you happen to be pregnant during the summer, ice cream definitely helps. Heck, everyone craves the sweet coolness of a nice bowl of mint chip after dinner during the hotter months, don’t they?
So when I stumbled on the ultimate mash-up of pregnancy cravings, I had to share it with you.
It’s pickle-flavored soft serve ice cream.
The Lucky Pickle Dumpling Co. in New York offers an array of dishes for all your pickle-flavored needs, but this is the one pregnant mamas the world over have been waiting for: soft serve ice cream.
That lovely light green color with those whorls in it makes this an oddly beautiful ice cream, I think. And after reading a few comments, it seems most people who’ve tried it are quite happy with the result — even those who aren’t pregnant.
If you can’t make it to New York this summer, I’ve rounded up a few other cool pickle-flavored treats that may be closer to home. You’re welcome.
-You can make your own peanut butter and pickle ice cream with this recipe from the New York Times
–Sonic is planning to roll out pickle juice slushies next month, and Food & Wine editors say it’s delicious and “you won’t understand why, but you’ll keep going back for more sips, likely until it’s all gone.”
-You can nab these pickle popsicles on Amazon to keep you cool as well.
-Or, finally, you can just go for the straight-up pickle juice. A whole, giant gallon of it, without those actual pesky pickles getting in your way. You could maybe even combine it with some ice cream for a milkshake? If you try that, I’d like your recipe.
I may try one or two of these…and I’m not even pregnant.
