All The Easy Ways You Can Be An Earth Mama

We all want to be more environmentally conscious. I mean, it’s 2019 — you’re watching the news, right? But sometimes we get it in our heads that being more eco-friendly/carbon-neutral sustainable is just too haaaard. Or we start to think that being an earth mama means wearing colorless hemp shawls and shoes that are entirely too practical.

But the truth is that there are so many incredibly easy ways to be kinder to our Mother Earth. So let’s start small because there are many no-stress ways to become an earthier mama. Here are six of our faves.

1. Hitch Rides With Your Mom Squad

Start with carpooling. If you’re not already sharing driving responsibilities with your Mom Squad, you need to fix that STAT. Whether it’s school drop-off, pickup, soccer practice, dance class, whatever, splitting the driving with your ladies is a lifesaver that just happens to be an incredibly effective way to tread a bit more gently on the earth.

And with the time you’ll save not driving all over town every day, you can take a bubble bath and pop some chocolates! (Just kidding. No mom with a pocket of free time does that. But it’s fun to imagine.)

2. Reusable Bags Are Totes Worth It

Another absurdly simple way to help the earth is by using reusable grocery totes while shopping. In addition to being more earth-friendly, those things are wrist and finger savers. Do you know the number of times I’ve twisted 65 flimsy bag handles around my fingers when three reusable bags would have worked? I don’t know. But it’s a lot.

3. Organic, Whenever Possible!

Whenever possible, choose organic foods. It matters where and how food is made, and a great place to start is with foods from Annie’s. Annie’s uses the highest quality ingredients and operates from a mission to care for the planet and the health and well-being of everyone on it. Annie’s believes that food can be a force for good and that we have a responsibility to leave the planet better than we found it. This is why they invest in organic and regenerative agriculture to make real delicious food (with our families’ taste buds in mind).

4. The Small Stuff Adds Up

Don’t forget things like reusable straws (metal and glass ones are super sturdy and easy to clean) and sustainable food wraps. They’re simple, inexpensive, a tiny bit glamorous, and they cut waaay down on pollution.

5. Be the Compostess With the Mostest

Gardening has become about a thousand times easier to do than it once was. For one thing, the internet. Durr. Sooo much information about how to get started and what to grow. And composting has become super easy, too, with even mass-market retailers selling countertop compost bins. Plus, when you support companies like Annie’s, you’re supporting programs like Grants for Gardens — which helps kids in schools have access to gardens. 6. Find Your People and Support Them

Another really important and ridiculously easy way to help heal the earth is voting. Vote for candidates who support green initiatives and demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the issues that matter to you. Because we can recycle ‘til the cows come home, but the reality is that voting your values can have an enormous impact on the environment.

See? Simple! And give yourself a pass here and there just to keep up your motivations. Example: Are you using dry shampoo three days a week? You’re a hardcore water conservationist! Skipping a trip to your in-laws? Um, it’s called minimizing your dependence on fossil fuels. And if a hemp shawl is your thing, rock it, sis! Being an earth mama looks good on you.

Annie’s is More Than Just Food. For 30 years, Annie’s has been on a mission to cultivate a healthier, happier world by spreading goodness through nourishing foods, honest words, and conduct that is considerate and forever kind to the planet. Annie’s considers Mother Earth with all that they do — like their journey to bring soil back to life through regenerative agriculture practices, which protect and intentionally enhance natural resources and farming communities. When you buy organic food, like a yummy box of Organic Bunny Fruit Snacks or Cheddar Bunnies, you’re supporting Annie’s mission to care for the planet and the health and well-being of everyone on it. How delicious is that?
