It has finally happened: you and your best gal pals are all free on the same night. No kids, no work, just the girls. So what should you do to mark the occasion? Sure, there’s the usual dinner and drinks, you could binge Friends, or go down memory lane with a few episodes of Sex And The City, but it might be fun to play a game or two. Put your hair down, forget your troubles, and feel 16 again with these absolutely hilarious and fun games to play on a girls’ night out.

Purse Scavenger Hunt

Without looking in your bags, write down a list of common items you might find in a purse. These could include:

  • Lipstick
  • A mirror
  • Gum
  • Mints
  • Tissue
  • Hair clip
  • Particular coins
  • Credit cardCoupons
  • Shopping list
  • Old receipt

Designate one person as the host. Have her call out one item at a time. The first person who is able to fish the object from her purse is awarded one point. Whoever winds up with the most points by the end of the game wins.

Guess the Celebrity

Pick a leader for this game as well, and have them write down various names of celebrities on sticky notes — just make sure the rest of the party doesn’t see them. Then, have each person pick a note and stick it on their forehead. The goal is for them to guess the name of the celebrity on their note. They can ask for help and hints, of course, but no names or rhyming hints! Whoever guesses the most celebrities correctly wins!

Guess Who

Give everyone in the group a slip of paper, and have them write down one thing that no one (at least in this group) knows about them. Then have them fold it up and put it in a bowl/hat/cup/etc. Go around the circle and take turns having a person pick a note from the pile and reading it out loud. The rest of the group then has to guess who wrote it. There isn’t one specific winner for this one — it’s technically everybody, because they get to know their friends better.

Never Have I Ever

This one is a classic for a reason! In case you need a refresher, one person says a statement starting with “Never have I ever…” For example, it could be something like “Never have I ever cheated on a partner.” Then, everyone in the rest of the group who has also never done that takes a drink (if you’re off alcohol that’s fine — you’ll be really hydrated!). You’ll learn more about your friends — or, more accurately, what they have and haven’t gotten into.

Name That Tune

Everyone in the group takes a turn as the host. Each player opens iTunes or whatever music app they use on their phone and plays a snippet of a song. Whoever in the group guesses the song correctly first, wins.

Dance Contest

Remember back in the ‘20s and ‘30s when it was all the rage to enter dance marathons, but it was actually sort-of sad because most people did it as an attempt to make money? No? Well, that’s fine. For this game you just need to be somewhere where you’re permitted (or ideally, encouraged) to dance like a bar or a club. Designate a starting time (like 10pm…or, if we’re being more realistic, 7pm) and have everyone dance. The last person still dancing wins.

Thumbs Down

OK, this may not be the most intelligent game in the world, but it’s something to do. Basically, the game starts when one person puts their thumb down on a table. As soon as anyone else notices this, they should put their thumb down as well. The last person without their thumb on the table, loses.

Two Truths and a Lie

Go around the group and have each person say three things about themselves: two things that are true, and one that is a lie. Then, the rest of the group has to guess which ones are the truth, and which is the lie.

Bad Word

At the beginning of the night, pick a word that will be banned for the night. It could be something like “husband” or “gym membership,” or “bathroom.” Any time anyone says the “bad” word, they have to take a drink.

Truth or Dare

Relive your slumber party days with a rousing game of truth or dare. You know the rules: each person is giving the option of telling a truth or doing some kind of a dare. Since you’re on a girls’ night out and probably in public, the dares could involve an element of public humiliation, which ups the ante a little.
